Meet the Staff of Hohenstein Chiropractic

You've probably heard the saying, "Two heads are better than one." We've taken that to heart at Hohenstein Chiropractic. With two chiropractors on staff, you get the benefit of extra brainpower. Especially with difficult cases.

Sauk City Chiropractor, Randal J. Hohenstein, DC
Introducing Randall J. Hohenstein, D.C.

"Simply, put, I was a skeptic," remembers Dr. Hohenstein.  "With a mother who was a Registered Nurse and me being enrolled in the pre-med program, a chiropractic career was the furthest thing from my mind."

In 1989 Dr. Hohenstein sustained a serious football injury.  He could hardly walk and even had pain when he took a deep breath.

After five weeks of painkillers, anti-inflammatories and physical therapy, the medical doctors were ready to perform surgery.  Reluctantly, on the advice of a teammate, he made a visit to the local chiropractor for a second opinion.

"After one adjustment to the thoracic spine I was virtually pain free.  I couldn't believe it.  How could it be that simple?  It was at that moment that I decided I wanted to help people without the use of invasive and often dangerous drugs or surgery," he recalls.

In 1989 Dr. Hohenstein began his pre-chiropractic education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and molecular biology.  He was then accepted at the prestigious  Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA.  During his four years at Palmer, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, X-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Palmer College Public Clinic.  While attending over 30 credit hours per semester at Palmer, Dr. Hohenstein also found time to become heavily involved in the highly respected Gonstead Club on campus, eventually becoming its president.  Since then he has taken nearly 500 hours of post graduate Gonstead training, and is currently enrolled in the Chiropractic Orthopedics program through the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Hohenstein is married to Anita and has two children, Madie and Sam.  The Hohenstein family resides in Sauk City and attends the Sauk Prairie Evangelical Free Church.  When not seeing patients or spending time with his family, he can be found bird hunting with his black lab, Scout.

"We love skeptics," smiles Dr. Hohenstein. "I still remember the concerns and apprehension I had when I went to the chiropractor for the first time. So we make it a point to explain everything in advance, answer questions and attempt to effectively communicate.  Patients appreciate that."

Sauk City Chiropractor, <br> Wayne A. Christianson, DC
Introducing Wayne A. Christianson, D.C

"The past 20 years have literally flown by and I feel blessed to have so many great memories to look back on," Dr. Christianson remembers.  "I have always been interested in the health field.  When I graduated from high school, I thought very hard about veterinary school, but ended up enlisting in the U.S. Air Force."  After serving our country, he tried his hand at several things:  roofing, managing a theater, partnering in a fireplace store, sales jobs, hanging drywall, farming, bartending --  you name, it he probably tried it -- but none of the jobs left him feeling satisfied.

Dr. Christianson was introduced to chiropractic after a particularly nasty auto accident.  "Chiropractic care is what got me back on my feet in record time," he recalls.

At age 29 when he was laid off for the winter from his construction job, he decided it was time to go back to school.  Pre Chiropractic classes were taken at MATC, and his chiropractic education started in the summer of 1983 at Palmer College of Chiropractic.  After graduating in 1986 and interning with Dr. Murphy in Lodi, he opened an office in Sauk City in March of 1987. In 1990 he purchased the current clinic on Phillips Blvd. from Dr. Westre who practiced in Sauk City for over 50 years.

After nearly 20 years of serving the Sauk Prairie area, Dr. Christianson thought it might be time to retire and pursue another passion: horses. In November of 2005, the practice was sold to Dr. Hohenstein.  Dr. Christianson then cut back his practice time, and soon found that one and one-half days per week were not enough.  He is currently starting another practice in his home town of Osseo, WI, but will continue to practice in Sauk Prairie with Dr. Hohenstein as long as he is able.

"Over the years, I have built many wonderful relationships with my patients and I would feel like I was leaving too many good friends if I stopped working here," he states.  "I believe every patient  deserves the very best I can do, and have always tried to treat everyone as if they were my mother or father, sister or brother.  A wise person once said something like 'If you pick a profession that you truly love, you will never work another day in your life.'  So far, I have had a wonderful 20-year vacation."

Hohenstein Chiropractic is blessed to be able to draw from the knowledge and experience that 20 years in Chiropractic has given Dr. Christianson.

Donna J. Roelke, CT
Introducing Donna J. Roelke, CT

Ms. Roelke moved to the Sauk Prairie area in 1987 to begin her career in the chiropractic field.  Little did she know that her desire to serve would take her on a 20-year journey to where she is today as office manager of Hohenstein Chiropractic.

She was born in Elgin, IlL, where she completed her elementary education. In 1979 she graduated from high school in Kirkland, IL and went on to community college and eventually landed in Davenport, IA, where she attended the widely respected Palmer College, School of Chiropractic Technicians.

After graduation, Donna relocated to the Sauk Prairie area where she met her husband, Larry.  They share a small country farm in rural Sauk City with their Cocker Spaniel, Tucker.

Since 1996 Ms. Roelke has been heavily involved with the Sauk Prairie Relay for Life.  She has helped with the Sauk Prairie Special Olympics, first informally in 1992, and now officially since 2002.  She is also a member of the Sauk Prairie United Way Board.  "I enjoy living and working in this area and want to give back where I can.  I even get teased about how much I shop in this area," Donna states.

In 2001 Donna’s exceptional commitment to service and the Chiropractic profession were recognized as she was honored with the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association’s Chiropractic Assistant of the Year award.

Hohenstein Chiropractic is very fortunate to have an office manager with such vast experience and passion to serve.
